Kaagman & Kortekaas: Cool outpost for quality food near Dam Square

I find I really like navigating the busy city centre to enjoy hidden gems filled with local Amsterdamers who also enjoy good food and wine! Kaagman & Kortekaas is another great example. Nestled just behind Dam Square in a quite side street, this is a perfect location for a chic dinner date with your partner or friends. It is a surprising large restaurant for the city centre, with two sides of seating and an open kitchen and bar located in the middle. The decor is industrial and there is a definite hipster vibe creating a cosy atmosphere.

kaagmanThe menu is chef’s choice of either 3, 4, 5 or 6 courses – which is great if you don’t want to make any decisions!  The food was creative in their flavour combinations and beautifully presented. The best course by far was an amazingly flavorsome soup with truffle. They were also super accommodating for food preferences even though we didn’t notify them when we booked. The staff are warm and friendly and were great in helping to choose a delicious wine.

While not a budget restaurant, the food quality vs price is great. On the day we visited we had 5 courses with two bottles of wine and coffee for 87.50 pp inclusive tip.  This is the second time I have visited and it still delivers a great standard of food.

So what would be our recommendation? 4 stars! Definitely worth a visit if you want to go out for a meal. It tends to be really busy, so recommend booking in advance.
